PROJECT TIMEYour school is involved in an exchange programme with students from a school in Kent, England. They will be visiting your town for 3 weeks. The headmaster of your school has asked you to prepare a leaflet, telling these young people a few interesting things about the things they can do there.
Σημείωση: Οι μαθητές είχαν την εναλλακτική δυνατότητα να μιλήσουν ως κάτοικοι όχι μόνο των Άνω Λιοσίων, αλλά όποιου μέρος της Ελλάδας επιθυμούν.
Project: Celebrating Thanksgiving Day
Purpose: to inform students about the traditions of an English-speaking foreign culture, to enhance cultural understanding, to encourage students to cooperate smoothly inside and outside the classroom, to see students’ work presented on the school walls.
Initial Stage of Project: Students were informed about Thanksgiving Day, the meaning and history of this holiday and how it is celebrated today.
Developing the Project: Students were asked to think about what they are grateful for and write sentences. Their sentences were then corrected and copied on carton leaves. Later on, these were hung on a tree made of carton on the wall of our school. Others made “thankful turkey” handicrafts using construction paper.
Most students in their thankful notes wrote that they were thankful for having a loving family or wonderful friends. Some came up with more original ideas such as: “I am thankful to my school for teaching me what is right and wrong.” Finally, the students of A5 class were asked to prepare a poster which would inform of the “meaning” of Thanksgiving Day. They prepared a poster stating the most important facts concerning this celebration and decorated it with a … turkey! Evaluation: Completing this project was great fun for all those involved and it gave us all the opportunity to think about what we consider valuable in our lives.
The realization of this project would have been impossible without the help and guidance of our art teacher, Ms Vasilakou. I would like to thank her for generously devoting her time to the completion of this project. Project: Who's the Mystery Person?
Objective: to practice the use of the Simple Past tense, to acquaint students with famous historical figures, to encourage students to use the Internet and their other school subjects as a source of information.
Realization of Project: The idea for this project came from our textbook: Think Teen, 1st grade of Junior high school (advanced), page 48. Students were asked to think of two famous historical figures. Then, they had to write three clues for each person. They were asked not to reveal the name of their mystery person. They also had to add visual material to their work (a photograph, a relevant drawing).
All mystery people posters were hung on the school walls and a game was prepared. The mystery people’s names were written on small pieces of carton paper. Students were invited to attach the name plates to the matching mystery people during the school breaks! Finally, all mystery people entries were posted on the school website. Admire our posters on the walls:
I would like to thank our IT teacher Ms Laspia for the absolutely wonderful presentation of this project in the “English Corner” of our webpage. I would also like to thank our art teacher, Ms Vasilakou for all her help. Project: Love Story
Περιγραφή: Με αφορμή κείμενο του βιβλίου με τίτλο "The Love Story of Romeo and Juliet", παρμένο από την ομώνυμη ιστορία του Σαίξπηρ, ανατέθηκε σε ομάδες μαθητών να συνθέσουν τη δική τους ιστορία αγάπης.

Objective: to learn more about the world , to enhance cultural understanding, to motivate students to use the Internet as a source of information, to encourage students to work smoothly in groups, to build up students’ confidence by demonstrating their work on the school walls.
Realization of Project: The idea for this project came from our textbook: Think Teen, 2nd grade of Junior High School (advanced), page 49. After reading about the amazing places in this unit, students were asked to find information about other amazing places they would like to visit. Then, they had to concentrate on five points of interest and prepare a poster adding relevant visual material to their work ( photographs, drawings etc).
All posters were hung on the school walls and a knowledge quiz was prepared. Students were invited to answer the knowledge quiz questions during the school breaks by searching for information in the posters! |
